“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines.
Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
~H Jackson Brown Jr, 'PS I Love You'

A planned day trip to Daylesford on Easter Monday turned instead into an unexpected day trip to Geelong and Queenscliff at the last minute. Despite my reservations about the weather as I drove along the Princes Freeway, I needn't have been concerned. As it turned out, conditions could not have been more perfect for long exposure shooting. I've been doing a lot of this type of photography over the past 7 or 8 months. Right now, there is no other form of photography I love more. I am thoroughly addicted. There is just something so beautiful about silky smooth water and clouds. I was thrilled with the conditions that met me in Geelong that day, and incredibly happy with the results.

When I arrived and stood looking down over the bay from up along The Esplanade, there was not a breath of wind to be felt. There were big, deliciously fluffy grey clouds drifting across the city, and out over the sea. The water was so still and calm, it was like glass. It was so beautiful, I ended up spending a lot more time here shooting than I had intended to. I've long wanted to shoot from this spot on the hill overlooking Corio Bay, but somehow, it's just never happened. Until this day. And it was so worth it.

I wandered down to the small jetty where people were fishing, and the wind was just starting to pick up. Enough to give the boats a lovely blurred effect as they turned gently on their moorings.

I don't think I've every really appreciated the photo opportunities around Geelong. I've always tended to drive straight through on my way to the Bellarine Peninsula. But now I'm planning a trip back to finish this shoot. I spied two or three lovely little boathouses further around the foreshore, towards the main pier, that I didn't get to shoot this time. It was getting a little late, and I wanted to get to Queenscliff to do some shooting around the pier there. So Part 2 of this series is pending.
