The weather bureau forecast for snow falling in the outer lying areas around Melbourne was promising early this week. And Mother Nature did not disappoint. On Tuesday night, down it came - and the world (or at least the world just outside of Melbourne), awoke to a beautiful, winter wonderland on Wednesday morning.

I've waited a long time to see Trentham like this. Every year prior, it's always seemed to happen when I couldn't be here to witness it. But this week, I finally got my wish. This beautiful little village, nestled in the heart of the Hepburn Shire - in the Central Highlands of Victoria - was every bit as pretty as I'd expected it to be, with it's soft white coating of freshly fallen snow. It and it's surrounding farms and fields, had transformed into a winter wonderland.

The drive from Melbourne was a bit of a nerve-wracking experience, making my way up Black Forest Road, through Woodend, and on to Ashbourne Road, before arriving in Trentham, was something I was a little apprehensive about doing. I've had very little experience driving in icy conditions like that. I was half expecting the car to hit black ice and go spinning off the road, or getting hopelessly bogged in mud. Needless to say, it was a very slow and cautious drive! But. So. Worth. It.

I spent a number of hours, wandering around, blissfully, happily taking snow shots with both my camera and iPhone. If the sun hadn't started to shine, and the snow begun to melt, I'd have been happy to spend many more hours wandering, and shooting. As it turned out, I've ended up with two distinctly different series of shots from the day, both of which I have uploaded in separate galleries. One taken with the beautiful Lensbaby Edge 50 Optic - and the other, with the equally wonderful Hipstamatic App on my iPhone.

I've experienced snow on Mt Macedon and it was magical. Now I've experienced snow in Trentham. I'm really, really hoping that it won't be too long before I get to shoot snow in Daylesford, and in the Dandenong Ranges. Both on my to-do list.
