Soft moss a downy pillow makes, and green leaves spread a tent,
Where Faerie fold may rest and sleep until their night is spent.
The bluebird sings a lullaby, the firefly gives a light,
The twinkling stars are candles bright, Sleep, Faeries all, Good Night.

It's mushroom season here in Australia, and the pine forests between Gisborne and Woodend have been teeming with the fascinating Amanita Muscaria (Fly Agaric) mushroom. This is the first time I've ever been mushroom hunting, and this is the first time I have ever seen these amazing red and white mushrooms. Who knew they weren't just the stuff of fairytales and folklore? They're incredible!

I unexpectedly happened upon a few of the local residents whilst I was out foraging. They're very shy, and incredibly difficult to spot, but I discovered that once they come to trust you, they are as cheeky, as fun loving, and every bit as playful as one would expect them to be. :)

I can't wait for the mushroom season to return next Spring. I'll be back out there with camera in hand, exploring amongst the rows and rows of trees. There's something foreboding and mysterious about the pine forests. You never know just what or who you might encounter in your travels. For there live The Forest Dwellers... :)
